"Still alive"

The Palestinian President has said that kidnapped BBC journalist Alan Johnston is still alive.

"Yes, I believe he is still alive," President Abbas said in Stockholm. "Our intelligence services have confirmed to me that he's alive."

President Abbas said he knew which group was holding Johnston, but refused to give details.

You haven't really said what you think of all this. Your repporting has been ace but what about voicing your opinion?

It seems to have gone quiet

This worries me about the world: lack of respect. It is clear that a profession that once enjoyed respect - the foreign correspondent - is now just as much a target as a soldier or a terrorist to whoever fancies taking a pop at them or holding them to ransome. What are both our countries doing about insisting on getting this journalist back to the UK? There is a lot of banging on about taking a hard line on acts of terrorism and another muslim extreemist cleric has been arrested this week for inciting violence, but here's a kidnapping of an innocent UK citizen that seems not to be getting the publicity it deserves or the result we all want. Somebody fight for him! Give him back!

It appears there is more going on than anonymous (above) thinks. Isn't this always the way with hostages? Lots of working behind the scenes to try and reach agreement without pushing it too far too soon. Diplomacy. Big demonstrations too in Gaza. So he is not forgotten.

Is there anything organised here?

strikes me that if you want something to be organised for him you should get involved yourself

Has anyone got any more information about him yet?
